President's Message
I am honored to serve as President of the International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors during 2006-8. During the upcoming year, IAMFC will continue to serve its membership by providing current research, continuing education, and support for counselors who work with couples and families. I am honored to serve the IAMFC membership and to work with the distinguished IAMFC Board of Directors.
IAMFC continues to advocate for all families and all counselors who work with families. Diversity is valued at IAMFC, and we are always striving to increase research and professional development opportunities which emphasize diversity of family systems, diversity of counseling styles and theories, and diversity of counseling techniques. In particular, IAMFC continues to promote outcome research about couples and families. Outcome research conducted by professional counselors is vital in order for counselors to meet the needs of a changing society.
IAMFC wants to be a “professional home” for all counselors who work with families and couples. IAMFC also strives to provide members with a network which encourages communication between and among professional counselors. IAMFC’s student list-serve is very active and continues to be a source of information and mentorship for students in the United States and other counties.
In conclusion, I look forward to beginning new initiatives at IAMFC and continuing the rich heritage that has been established by the organization in past years. I am honored to serve this group during the upcoming year.
Bret Hendricks, EdD, LPC
